Haley & Daniel’s // Osteria, NSW
Haley and Daniel met when they were about 14, through soccer. Daniel played alongside Haley’s brother, and her dad was the coach.Haley started attending a few extra games, bringing her best friend along and pointing out Daniel’s “big calf muscles.” An appreciation for the sport? Debatable. An eye for detail? Excellent.
Years later, here we were at Osteria, photographing their wedding. A fairly impressive outcome for a teenage sideline crush. A day that felt like them.
What stood out about Haley and Daniel’s wedding was how easy it felt. There was a calmness to the day, with plenty of laughter, emotion and those little looks between two people who have a whole history together. Nothing felt forced. They had room to enjoy themselves, and that gave me plenty to photograph. The quiet moments matter just as much as the obvious ones. A glance across the room. Someone trying to hold it together. The way a couple settles into each other when they get a moment alone. You can’t put those things on a shot list, but you can pay attention.
There was a lot worth paying attention to here. Osteria doing what Osteria does, was stunning, as always. A beautiful setting certainly makes my job enjoyable, but it was the warmth of this wedding that stayed with me. The whole day felt full of love. The photographs have a lovely place behind them, but the people are what give them their meaning. And when it came to portraits, Haley and Daniel made things wonderfully straightforward. A little direction, time together, and very little need for me to interfere.

You don’t need to arrive at your wedding with modelling experience. Being comfortable with your person goes a long way. I’ll help with the rest. From the sidelines to Osteria. There’s something lovely about knowing how a couple’s story began while photographing where it has brought them.
At 14, an extra soccer game probably didn’t feel like a significant life decision. Yet that’s part of the story now, alongside the wedding, the people who were there and everything still to come. Haley and Daniel, thank you for trusting me to photograph your day. It was a pleasure to spend it with you. And Daniel, congratulations on the wedding. Apparently, the calf training was a sound investment.
